NEED A HAIRCUT? BUT WHERE? AT THE BARBER’S? OR AT THE HAIRDRESSER’S?

So, he can’t wait for the barbershop to reopen…

A barbershop? Are barbershops for men and hairdressers’ salons for ladies?

Well, this gentleman needs a barbershop… or does he?

Nobody is ever a hundred percent sure about the difference between a barber and a hairdresser.

Men used to prefer barbershops, for they have a  distinct masculine environment. Most importantly, a barber does not only cut hair, a barber shaves beards.

However, barbershops do not turn down a woman customer – women are always welcome there. Still, usually, ladies prefer to visit a hairdresser, or a hairstylist, at a beauty parlor.

Barbers are trained in cutting hair into simple styles. They do not color hair or use complicated cutting techniques.

Hairdressers cut and style hair,  they color and texture it.

And today you can see men at a hairdressers’ having stylish haircuts, many having their hair colored.

PS:
Mind the spelling of color and colored here – this is the American variant of the English language.
