Regrettably, today monuments are being defaced and pulled down one after another in many parts of the world. In Great Britain and the USA, this epidemic of vandalism seems to have infected more people than anywhere else. But it is not an entirely new phenomenon. New Yorkers pulled down the statue of the British King George III in 1776.
Today this event is commemorated in the meme: And that’s why no one knows who won the American Revolution.
The hapless monument to the British King was beheaded and the head was carried through the streets of New York by jeering crowds. The statue, they say, was melted and the metal was used to produce bullets, in the amount of 42 088.
But it looks like some parts of the statue went missing and. Half a century later, though, they started to miraculously appear here and there, even to the present day.
Recently a hand of the statue has ‘materialized’ at an auction.
How odd. Can this be a coincidence? Or has the hand appeared to administer punishment to the vandals who destroy historical heritage?
